Biography

ONE DYNAMIC ACTRESS: THREE INNOVATIVE TELEVISON SHOWS. Carolyn Lawrence currently stars on two popular, animated series as the unmistakable voices of characters that re-define the term girl-power. However, she is also appearing on-camera in a prime-time role without a voice - but with so much to say.

On Nickelodeon's hugely successful program SpongeBob SquarePants, Carolyn is the voice of America's favorite squirrel - Sandy Cheeks.

Says Lawrence, "I love Sandy, because she can do anything. She is a scientist with a black-belt in karate. I mean come on - all that and a squirrel too. She is truly inspiring."

Carolyn is also the voice of the "second" smartest kid in her class, Cindy Vortex, on Nickelodeon's movie-turned-TV-series The Adventures Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. The actress portrayed Cindy in the feature film version of Jimmy Neutron as well.

"It's a funny thing, because I was never originally intended to portray Cindy. I was actually hired to perform on the scratch track until the producers could find another actress to play the part. So I was uninhibited, to say the least, while performing, because I felt as though I had nothing to lose. And they never found that other actress thankfully. Cindy is a blast for me to portray, because she speaks her mind. She's a little rough around the edges, but she means well," states Lawrence on the super-student with an attitude, Cindy Vortex.

Opposite Fred Willard and Norm McDonald on the FOX, comedy series A Minute with Stan Hooper, Carolyn appears on-camera as the quirky artist Marjorie Hawkins, who doesn't say a word but manages to create quite a stir.

"Marjorie may be perceived as the village idiot, because she chooses not to speak. But I would like to think that she just doesn't want to add to noise pollution," says Lawrence, in jest, of her new TV role.

Carolyn Lawrence was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her father worked for the Department of Defense, while her mother was an elementary school teacher. Carolyn knew at an early age that she was destined to entertain; however, she always thought it would be as a dancer. Throughout her childhood, she and her friends performed impromptu musicals in their parents' basements.

Barely out of high school, Carolyn moved to Chicago to study dance with The Gus Giordano Jazz Group. As fate would have it, she landed her first voice over gig as the talking stuffed animal Snoozie at the suggestion of a fellow student. As a struggling young dancer, she was amazed that people actually made a living as voice over talent and was immediately hooked.

Just as Carolyn was moving from dance to acting in Chicago, romance led her to Los Angeles, where she would ultimately land the animated roles that would change her career forever.

However, as an actress in Los Angeles, Carolyn has successfully transitioned back and forth from voice over to on-camera roles over the past few years. Prior to her current role on A Minute with Stan Hooper, she appeared in the feature film Little Man Tate with Jodie Foster and on the sitcoms Caroline in the City, 7th Heaven, Wings and Blossom, among others.

Away from the studios and sound stages, Carolyn classifies herself as a home fix-it girl. She is currently in the process of insulating the attic in her new home. She also enjoys playful time with the Brussels Griffin-mix she rescued years ago, named Sprout.

Music is another passion for this pint-sized / blond haired /green-eyed actress, and she loves everything from Missy Elliot to Tim McGraw.
